Signs of Water Damage: Cracks in Walls
Basement walls bowing inward or outward
may be the result of soil pressure. Especially
after heavy rains, waterlogged soil gets heavy
and can put pressure on your basement walls.
Similarly, cold Wisconsin winters can freeze the
moisture in the ground, making it expand
against your walls.
Bowing walls can crack (if they haven’t already)
and can lead to serious leaks and water
damage. Bugs may enter through the cracks.
Cracking and bowing walls may even lead to
concerns about crumbling, instability or
structural integrity.

This lightweight material is very popular for foundation
repair and for good reason. Carbon fiber is incredibly
strong. When tensile pressure is applied, carbon fiber is
stronger than steel.
When your basement wall cracks and its structural
integrity starts failing, installing carbon fiber strips keep
the wall together. Carbon fiber strips maintain the wall’s
shape while acting as a reinforcement and prevents new
cracks from forming.
This also keeps water from entering the basement.
Carbon fiber sheets are very inconspicuous. The sheets
don’t protrude far from the wall and only require a simple
paint application to cover them up. Get some peace of
mind from RION WATERPROOFING, knowing that your
basement wall is stronger and stabilized.
CARBON FIBER STRIPS
FOR BASEMENT WALLS
by RION protects homes & commercial
buildings from extensive damage.
Basements suffering deterioration develop
cracks in their walls. These cracks allow water
from outside to leak inside. Bugs also get in
this way too. By injecting a specialized resin
inside the cracks, we put an end to unwanted
water and bugs entering your basement.
Foundation experts at Rion will reinforce your walls
and prevent both collapse and water damage.
Crumbling foundations are easy openings for water
to enter your home. Major structural damage to
your home or commercial buildings is imminent.
When a basement wall collapses, the structural
integrity is compromised, a ton of value is lost and
MAJOR expenses have to be shelled out to fix them.
So when a wall starts bending and bowing,
it’s time to Call Rion!
RION uses carbon fiber and steel beams to
reinforce your basement walls, depending on
whatever material best suits the foundation. If
our contractors find a wall in the basement
that's beyond repair, we will remove and replace
it with a new, reinforced wall. Our new walls add
longevity to any basement and prevent further
damage to your foundation.
If you have a cracked or bent wall in your
basement, Call RION!
We’ll come to assess the situation and
determine if carbon fiber strips are appropriate.
Some cases require steel beams to be added. If
the wall is damaged beyond repair, we tear it
down and replace it with a new wall.
Despite carbon fiber’s incredible strength, it has
limitations. Carbon fiber strips don’t handle
compression well. If tensile strength isn’t
constant, carbon fiber strips will fail. For any
walls bending or bowing beyond 2 inches, the
next step requires installing steel beams. Steel
beams are used more often than carbon fiber
and are ideal for immediately stopping a
bending wall.
A 4” steel I-beam is commonly used, which is
bolted into the ceiling and floor.
This applies constant pressure to the bending
wall and keeps the wall from pushing out even
further.

RION WATERPROOFING keeps water out of
your home by sealing, repairing and stopping
the flow of water through cracks. This is
extremely effective and the easiest way to
stop moisture infiltration at its source. Even
the tiniest of cracks can be a major source of
water damage, and many of our customers
are shocked at the amount of water that
flows into their homes.
Basement water damage is a vicious cycle of
deterioration that can only be restored by
stopping water leaks at their source. Rion
Waterproofing uses injection waterproofing
to repair most basement cracks. By using a
simple epoxy resin, we literally inject the
material into the crack. Once it dries and
hardens, the epoxy resin acts as a strong
sealant that repels water from entering your
home. It also seals off the porous surface
around the damaged area.
